Gotteman Anger Icberg

I often reflect on the "Anger Iceberg" (created by The Gottman Institute) to explore the factors that fuel and ignite our experience of anger. In many contexts, anger serves as a maladaptive protective response, a defense mechanism that may no longer serves our well-being or best interests.
Anger can be deceptive, fostering rationalizations for lashing out through our thoughts, feelings, or behaviours, while simutaneously shielding internal vulnerabilities. This reactive state can inadvertently cause harm to those around us, and have unfavourable consequences for us. When we observe and discern what anger is communicating, we can access the embodied wisdom of our inner world. We often do not have control over what happens to us or around us, however, we do have agency in how we respond.

This is an aritcle I wrote, informed by my research and practice within Family Law for 18 years, about Separation and Divorce with children. Separation and Divorce is a challenging time and it is important for us to be mindful of our actions and the longitudinal implications for ourselves and our children.

Forging Mindset

I often refer to the concept of Stocic Principles for myself and those I support in my practice. I have come to learn that modern day mindfulness truly has its roots in these principles. The greatest lesson I learned was we may not be able to control what happens around us, or to us, however we do have the capacity to curate how we respond. Learning the difference between reacting and responding has been a game changer! #mindfulness #stoicism #choice
